Ways the Job Hunt Has Changed, Continued

free online applicant tracking systemAre you getting ready to search for a new career but unfamiliar with the ways of job hunting today? If so, you’ve come to the right place. Things have drastically changed in the past decade when it comes to seeking employment and we have a few tips you might find useful during your upcoming search. In our last blog post about job searching, we talked about a few things to consider when hunting. Click here to give it a read.

Below, you’ll find more ways this process has evolved over the years.

Volunteer During Work Gaps. Volunteer work used to be overlooked, though many added it to their resume anyway. Now, hiring managers focus on it. Do as much as you can while you’re searching for a new career. It will increase your chances of being hired.

Submit Resumes and Cover Letters by Email. Everything in the world is going paperless, if possible, to help save our planet. This is also true for those applying for a new job. Be sure your resume and cover letter is formatted correctly. Instead of stopping by various businesses to drop them off, email them instead.

Change Your Work History to a Summary. You’re probably used to typing in every job you’ve had in the past 10 years and then listing the responsibilities of those jobs within your resume. Those days are over. Now, companies prefer to see a work history summary. This is eye-catching and only contains what’s necessary. Only about 30 seconds of attention is given to a resume as it’s being looked at. Use this summary to catch their attention!

Update Your Social Media Accounts. Believe it or not, employers check out candidates on Facebook, LinkedIn and more. It’s important to make sure your accounts are up-to-date and don’t show anything that could be considered unprofessional in any way. Even your profile photo should be current and semi-professional. You also want to use LinkedIn to your advantage. This is the one place all employers check. Make sure you update your information and get endorsements to show what you can do.

We hope these tips help you in your job hunt. Things have changed drastically so it’s important to make sure you’re ready for searching in today’s world! For more tips, visit back with our previous post, as well.
